Can I use 5G with my GitSim eSIM?

Find out about 5G network access with your eSIM, including device compatibility, coverage, and what to do if it's not working.

Many GitSim eSIMs are designed to provide access to 5G networks, offering significantly faster data speeds and lower latency for an improved online experience. While we strive to offer 5G on most of our data bundles, its availability depends on a few factors.

What determines 5G availability?

To connect to a 5G network with your GitSim eSIM, the following conditions generally need to be met:

  • eSIM Support: The specific GitSim eSIM bundle you purchase must support 5G. We aim to provide the fastest available network, and many of our bundles include 5G access.
  • Device Compatibility: Your smartphone or device must be 5G-compatible. Not all devices that support eSIMs can connect to 5G networks. You can check our list of eSIM Compatible Devices, but you'll also need to verify your specific model's 5G capabilities.
  • 5G Network Coverage: You must be in an area where a 5G network is available and your eSIM has coverage. Network availability can vary by location, even within supported countries and regions.

Why isn't 5G working if it should be supported?

Even if your eSIM and device are 5G-ready, and you are in a country with 5G, a stable 5G connection isn't always guaranteed.

The most common reason is network signal strength. If the 5G signal in your immediate vicinity is weak or obstructed, your device will automatically switch to a more stable connection, such as 4G/LTE, to maintain connectivity.

Troubleshooting 5G on iPhone

If you believe you should have 5G access on your iPhone (iPhone 12 models or later) but don't see the 5G indicator in the status bar, try these steps:

  1. Confirm 5G Coverage: Ensure you are in an area known to have 5G coverage.
  2. Check iPhone Settings:
    • Go to Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data).
    • Tap the SIM associated with your GitSim eSIM.
    • Tap Voice & Data (or Cellular/Mobile Data Options).
    • If "5G On" or "5G Auto" is selected, 5G is enabled on your device. If 5G is not an option, the eSIM itself may not support 5G, or your iOS version/carrier settings may need an update (though with GitSim, specific carrier settings are not user-managed beyond APN).
  3. Toggle Airplane Mode: Turn Airplane Mode on for a few seconds, then turn it off. This forces your iPhone to re-establish its network connection.

Remember, only iPhone 12 models and newer support 5G networks. Being in an area with 5G coverage is essential; if you move too far from a 5G tower, your connection might downgrade to 4G or LTE.
