Configure hotspot tethering and APN settings on iOS and Android devices using your eSIM plan
Overview
Use your eSIM plan's mobile data to share an internet connection with other devices via Personal Hotspot (tethering). This guide walks you through setup on both iOS and Android, including manual APN configuration when required.
iOS (iPhone)
Step 1: Open Personal Hotspot Settings
- Go to Settings > Personal Hotspot
Or Settings > Mobile Data > Personal Hotspot
Step 2: Enable Others to Join
- Toggle on Allow Others to Join
- If prompted, set a Wi-Fi Password
Use a strong, unique password to keep your hotspot secure.
Step 3: Configure APN for Hotspot (If Required)
If your eSIM provider specifies an APN, apply it here. For our eSIMs, the APN is always plus
.
- Open Settings > Cellular (or Mobile Data).
- Under Cellular Plans, select your eSIM.
- Tap Cellular Data Network.
- In Personal Hotspot APN, enter
plus
(all lowercase, no spaces).
- Leave Username and Password blank.
Entering an incorrect APN (i.e., anything other than plus
) can prevent devices from connecting to your hotspot.
Android
Step 1: Set Up APN (If Required)
Before enabling tethering, configure your APN. For our eSIMs, the APN is always plus
.
- Open Settings (swipe down and tap the gear icon).
- Tap Network & Internet > SIMs & Network (or Mobile Network) > Access Point Names.
- Select Add (or edit an existing entry).
- Enter a Name (e.g., "Skendy eSIM") and set the APN to
plus
(all lowercase, no spaces).
- Save your changes.
If you're unsure about APN settings, refer to your eSIM installation instructions. The APN should be plus
.
Step 2: Enable Hotspot & Tethering
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Hotspot & Tethering.
- Tap Wi-Fi Hotspot and switch it ON.
- When prompted, set a Network Name (SSID) and Password.
Some Android devices may label tethering options differently, but the steps are similar.
Additional Notes
Hotspot availability may vary by eSIM provider or plan. Some carriers restrict tethering to manage network resources or plan limits.
- APN stands for Access Point Name, which defines the gateway between your device and the internet. For your eSIM, this value is
plus
.
