  3. Configure which line to use for:
    • Voice calls
    • Cellular data
    • iMessage and FaceTime

Tip: If you received the QR code on the same device (via email), you can long-press the QR code image in Mail or Safari and tap "Add eSIM" (iOS 17.4+), or display it on another device to scan.

Method 2: Manual installation

If you cannot scan a QR code, you can install manually using activation details:

Step 1: Get activation details

Your eSIM provider will give you:

  • SM-DP+ Address (server address)
  • Activation Code (typically 32 digits)
  • Confirmation Code (if required)

Step 2: Manual entry

  1. Go to Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM
  2. On the QR code screen, tap Enter Details Manually at the bottom
  3. Carefully enter the provided information:
    • SM-DP+ Address
    • Activation Code
    • Confirmation Code (if applicable)
  4. Tap Next to begin installation
  5. When "Cellular Plan Detected" appears, tap Add Cellular Plan
  6. Complete the labeling and configuration as above

Alternative installation methods

Carrier app installation

Some carriers offer eSIM installation through their mobile app:

  1. Download your carrier's app from the App Store
  2. Follow the in-app instructions to install your eSIM
  3. Complete the setup process within the app

Activation link

If you received an activation link (iOS 17+):

  1. Tap the activation link sent by your carrier
  2. Follow the on-screen prompts to download your eSIM
  3. Complete the installation process

Managing multiple lines

After installation, you can manage your cellular lines:

  • Default line: Choose which line handles calls, texts, and data by default
  • Cellular data switching: Switch between lines for data usage
  • Line labels: Rename your lines for easy identification
  • Turn off lines: Temporarily disable specific eSIM lines when not needed
