Device compatibility
Before installing your eSIM, ensure your device supports it and is unlocked (not carrier-locked).

Method 1: Install via QR code (Recommended)
Step 1: Access eSIM settings
- Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
- Tap Cellular (or Mobile Data on older iOS versions)
- Tap Add eSIM (may appear as Add Cellular Plan on older iOS)
Step 2: Scan your QR code
- Select Use QR Code - your camera will open
- Point your camera at the QR code provided after your purchase
- When "Cellular Plan Detected" appears, tap the notification
- Tap Continue and then Add Cellular Plan to confirm
- Enter any confirmation code if prompted by your carrier
Step 3: Complete activation
- Wait for the eSIM activation to complete
- Label your new line (e.g., "Travel", "Work", "Primary")
- Configure which line to use for:
- Voice calls
- Cellular data
- iMessage and FaceTime
Tip: If you received the QR code on the same device (via email), you can long-press the QR code image in Mail or Safari and tap "Add eSIM" (iOS 17.4+), or display it on another device to scan.
Method 2: Manual installation
If you cannot scan a QR code, you can install manually using activation details:
Step 1: Get activation details
Your eSIM provider will give you:
- SM-DP+ Address (server address)
- Activation Code (typically 32 digits)
- Confirmation Code (if required)
Step 2: Manual entry
- Go to Settings > Cellular > Add eSIM
- On the QR code screen, tap Enter Details Manually at the bottom
- Carefully enter the provided information:
- SM-DP+ Address
- Activation Code
- Confirmation Code (if applicable)
- Tap Next to begin installation
- When "Cellular Plan Detected" appears, tap Add Cellular Plan
- Complete the labeling and configuration as above
Alternative installation methods
Carrier app installation
Some carriers offer eSIM installation through their mobile app:
- Download your carrier's app from the App Store
- Follow the in-app instructions to install your eSIM
- Complete the setup process within the app
Activation link
If you received an activation link (iOS 17+):
- Tap the activation link sent by your carrier
- Follow the on-screen prompts to download your eSIM
- Complete the installation process
Managing multiple lines
After installation, you can manage your cellular lines:
- Default line: Choose which line handles calls, texts, and data by default
- Cellular data switching: Switch between lines for data usage
- Line labels: Rename your lines for easy identification
- Turn off lines: Temporarily disable specific eSIM lines when not needed
