How do I install an eSIM on a Huawei device?

Step-by-step guide to install and activate eSIM on compatible Huawei smartphones using QR code or manual settings

Supported Huawei Models

Before you begin, verify that your Huawei phone supports eSIM:

ModeleSIM Support
Huawei P40Yes
Huawei P40 ProYes
Huawei Mate 40 ProYes
Huawei Pura 70 ProYes
Huawei P40 Pro+No
Huawei P50No
Huawei P60No
If you don’t see an EID (Embedded SIM ID) under Settings > About Phone, your device isn’t eSIM-compatible.

Prerequisites

  1. Confirm your device is network-unlocked and listed above.
  2. Have a stable internet connection (Wi-Fi recommended).
  3. Ensure you’ve received either:
    • A QR code from your eSIM provider, or
    • SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code (plus any confirmation code).

Installation via QR Code

Follow these steps if you have a QR code:

  1. Open Settings on your Huawei device.
  2. Tap Mobile Network > SIM Management.
  3. Select Add eSIM.
  4. If prompted, enable eSIM support.
  5. Tap the Add eSIM button (usually at the bottom).
  6. Point your camera at the QR code provided.
  7. Tap Add eSIM to confirm.
  8. Wait (up to a few minutes) for activation to complete.
Tip: Keep your device connected to Wi-Fi and avoid closing the screen during activation.

Manual Installation

Use this method if you cannot scan a QR code:

  1. Go to Settings > Mobile Network > SIM Management.
  2. Tap Add eSIM.
  3. Press the Add eSIM button.
  4. Choose Enter Manually.
  5. Input the SM-DP+ Address and Activation Code exactly as provided.
  6. Leave the Confirmation Code field blank unless instructed otherwise.
  7. Tap Add this eSIM and wait for activation to finish.
  8. Once active, enable the eSIM and turn on Data Roaming if needed.
Common mistake: entering the confirmation code when none was provided—leave it blank unless your carrier specifies otherwise.

Managing Your eSIM

  • Switch between your physical SIM and eSIM under Settings > Mobile Network > SIM Management.
  • To enable or disable the eSIM, toggle its switch in SIM Management.
  • Configure APN settings if your carrier requires custom values.

Deactivating or Cancelling Your eSIM

  • Deactivating your eSIM in settings only removes it from your device—it does not cancel your service plan.
Do NOT assume that removing the eSIM cancels your subscription; contact your carrier for plan changes or cancellations.
