Step-by-step instructions for adding an eSIM on Pixel phones (Pixel 3 and newer)
Installing an eSIM on your Google Pixel is straightforward. Follow these simple steps to activate your GitSim eSIM profile quickly and use it for data while keeping your regular number for calls and texts.
An eSIM is a digital SIM card that you download onto your phone. There’s no plastic card to insert. You scan a QR code or type in an activation code, and a new mobile plan is added to your device.
Data roaming means using the internet on your phone when you’re in another country. Turn data roaming ON for the GitSim eSIM (so it works abroad) and keep data roaming OFF for your original SIM (to avoid unexpected charges).
GitSim partners with local networks. On your phone you may see a local carrier name (not “GitSim”). That’s normal and your GitSim plan is still active.
• Install your GitSim eSIM while on reliable Wi‑Fi.
• Seeing “Installing…” or “Activating…” at home is normal. Most travel eSIMs only finish activating after you arrive.
• Turn Data roaming OFF on your original SIM.
• In Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs, select GitSim for Mobile data.
• Turn Airplane mode OFF and wait a moment; you may need to restart once.
• In Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs, ensure the GitSim eSIM line is ON.
• Turn ON Data roaming for GitSim.
• Your data package is valid for 30 days after first use.
• Top up from your GitSim account or contact support for a quick add‑on.
• Switch Mobile data back to your original SIM if you like.
• GitSim eSIMs are typically one‑time use; buy a new eSIM for your next trip.
• Keep the old eSIM disabled; delete only if support advises.
Make sure your Pixel phone:
Some carrier-specific Pixel 3 / 3a models (e.g., certain Verizon or JP/TW variants) may not support eSIM. Pixel 4 and newer unlocked models do.
Go to Settings → Network & Internet.
Tap SIMs (or Mobile network on some versions).
Tap + Add SIM (or Add mobile network / Download a SIM (eSIM) instead).
If prompted to confirm using an eSIM, tap Continue or Next.
If scanning isn’t possible:
QR scanning is fastest. Use manual entry if scanning isn’t possible.
It may show “Activating…” until you arrive in the destination country. That’s expected.
Mobile data: set to Gitsim if you immediately want to use the eSIM. Choose your Primary if you want to use the eSIM later. You can switch anytime.
Call preferences / SMS preferences: keep your original SIM for calls and texts (your usual number).
On the GitSim eSIM, turn Roaming = ON.
On your original SIM, turn Roaming = OFF (and optionally turn its Mobile data = OFF).
Try these in order:
Do not delete the eSIM from your phone if it seems stuck. Most QR codes are single-use and removing the eSIM can’t be undone without a new code.
Your GitSim eSIM is installed and ready to provide affordable data while traveling. Enjoy your trip!
